Will Toyota Buy GM?

Reading AutoMuse yesterday we came across a piece: Toyota Acquiring GM? and of course it got us thinking. Think that could happen? GM sales are way down, management doesn't seem to be responding quickly, and the competition is gaining ground quickly (fourth paragraph). I don't claim to understand the business side of, uh, business but I can't see what Toyota would gain from buying GM. It's not like GM has something Toyota wants: great sales, specific technology, unique customer base. No, I would guess that GM and Ford would have to merge in order to survive. They'd of course have to cut brands but they could market themselves as the American car maker. What do you think will happen?

I don’t think Toyota would be dumb enough to buy GM!
As for GM and Ford merging, I think that when Packard bought Studebaker out in 1954, it finished them both off faster than it would have had they stayed independent. Bad idea, in my humble opinion.
Besides which, which brands would you save and which would you get rid of?
GM has way too many brands now.
