What the World Drives
by Jeff Bressler on February 8, 2008

From all the Tata hype you probably though that they had a lock on the Top 5 chart in India. Think again Sahib. While Tata is tops in commercial vehicles sold, it the joint venture Maruti suzuki that is the Taj Mahal of Indian automakers. As a matter of fact, three of the top five sellers in India have the Maruti Suzuki badge, with Tata holding only one Top 5 position.
With India possessing the eleventh largest automobile industry in the world and a growing affluence among its population of 1.1 billion, it is no wonder that the country is so frequently mentioned in the automotive press, and lust by manufactures all over the globe.
1. Maruti Alto

2. Hyundai Santro

3. Maruti Wagon R

4. Tata Indica

5. Maruti Swift
