VW Updates its Chinese Line

VW Sagitur

It looks like a Jetta to me but Volkwagen's China division calls it the Sagitar. And yes, visually, it is a Jetta. The Sagitar, according to German Car Blog, is VW's new flagship in the fast-growing Chinese market where, until recently, the German company was number one. With the Sagitar the Chinese group is aiming, says its president, "at highly educated, fashionable buyers in their mid-thirties hunting speed and excitement." VW began producing cars in China many years ago, offering the Santana, an outdated model targeted at the growing executive class. GM followed with an equally old-fashioned Buick but now is threatening Volkswagen's lead. VW plans on introducing up to 12 new models in China by 2009.
