I'm not sure just how scientific this test was. But then again, most of real-life conditions aren't scientific.
In this traction test, a German production team has drivers in first generations Lexus RX300, BMW X5, and a Mitsubishi Monterro, Volvo V70 Cross Country, Audi A6 Quattro All Road, and a BMW 3-Series sedan with all-wheel drive drive up what looks like a half mile long ski slope to see which vehicle gets the furthest before grinding to a tyre smoking halt.
Spoiler Alert!
The BMW 3-Series sedan goes the shortest distance before stopping. The Audi A6 Quattro All Road seems to go all the way to the top. Cool video.

Tire selection will make a huge difference in the ability of specific vehicles. The vid showed only a couple of tires and while they were "winter" tires they were far too wide and the tread not nearly blocky enough. I suspect the audi had better tires to go along with very good AWD.
