The following is a schematics video that lays out the "BlueTec" process of diesel emissions reduction.

The BlueTec system's greatest double achievement is that it greatly reduces nitrogen Oxide emissions (enough to pass most anti-diesel states' inspections - except California's) while maintaining impressive performance figures.

The now-sold-Stateside E320 BlueTec accelerates from 0-60 mph in 6.6 seconds (!) while having the capacity to cruise for nearly 800 miles on a single tank of diesel (!). A far cry from the old 300D's figures.
