Try Driving This to the Supermarket

Parked among the mundane family sedans at the local Sidney BC supermarket was a knee-high, cycle-fendered, open 2-seater that at first glance appeared to be a 1960's Lotus Seven. But with so many look-alikes available I was curious to know if this was the real thing. Indeed it was, complete with right-hand-drive and a couple of objects in the cockpit which indicated the car was lady-driven. But the Brits never give up on bare-bones sports cars as our photo indicates. You're looking at a brand new Brooke Double R, powered by a 2.3-litre Cosworth-built Ford Duratec unit, assembled by the same technicians responsible for Williams' F1 powerplants. A test drive in Auto Express tells us that 0-60 mph takes a mere 3.1 seconds. Of course, handling is what cars like this are all about, as I gleefully discovered when testing a Lotus Seven for a TV show decades ago. Now I'm wondering, who was that lady at the supermarket?
