What you're seeing here is an overhead shot from the Arizona Biltmore Hotel parking garage, of the crowds and classic cars outside the display room where the RM Auctions are taking place. It was a momentary chance to get above all those wealthy guys and their ladies as they bid the equivalent of my lifetime earnings to own a special motorcar.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not in the least envious. During my seven+ decades I've blown a small fortune on fast cars, fast boats, the rental of fast aircraft, and several beautiful ladies. And I don't regret a single moment. If that means I must continue working for a living, what better way than attending the classic car auctions in sunny Scottsdale?
Back at ground level I watched as fortunes were spent via telephone or a discreet lifting of the hand. It was entertainment. It was heart-stopping. It was captivating as I waited to see how much the Chrysler Thunderbolt concept shown in a previous blog might bring. At $975,000 I stopped bidding so that other rich guy might have a chance. In my dreams, of course.
