On the hotrod beat — I went to the Grand National Roadster Show in Pomona, California at the LA County Fairgrounds on Friday.

The GNRS is the home of the most prestigious award in the hotrod builders' world, "America's Most Beautiful Roadster." Owners and builders scheme and build all year long for the opportunity to compete, and inevitably burn the midnight oil to get their latest creation to the show on time. The show originated in Oakland back in 1950, and moved to Pomona three years ago. This year is the first under new management, and it is a doozy. Unlike many car shows, this one takes place indoors, in five big Hangar-like buildings that hold about 100 cars each. It's a great way to see some fantastic craftsmanship and artwork up close and personal — you can really tell the difference between a handcrafted vehicle and one that was put together with off-the-shelf components.

More on the show later, as I collect my thoughts and edit my photos…
