The order was the largest in the 100+ year history of Rolls-Royce. 14 "Brewster Green" bespoke longwheelbase Phantoms accompanied by comprehensive service plans were purchased recently by Hong Kong's (Kowloon's really) illustrious Peninsula Hotel.
According to British auto mag CAR, the Peninsula cut a cheque to BMW's super-luxury subsidiary for £3.9 million. The cost to the hotel doesn't end there, however. On automotive imports, Hong Kong's governing authority exacts a duty of 100% which means that's £3.9 million X 2. The translated costs at current rates in dollars equates to $15.272 million. And that's before insurance and gas (rounding errors, really).
But it was likely that the Hotel did recoup some (but not much) of its expenses with Goodwood. Rolls-Royce took back the Peninsula's entire fleet of Series III Silver Spurs.
