Despite what Porsche's P.R. referred to as "a poor market environment" in North America, overall sales remained stable this past April and so far this year in relation to the same periods in 2006. This is despite the fact that sales of the Boxster series which includes the recently premiered Cayman model range have declined by a staggering 33%.

The flagship series 911 declined too, albeit only slightly. The difference is small, 21 fewer 911s found homes compared to last year's record breaking figure of 1,328 units sold between January and April.

It's the marque's SUV, the Cayenne, that stands as Stuttgart's hero. The strength of new Cayenne sales alone have kept sales figures stable relative to 2006. In fact, sales of the sport utility grew by 9.4% over the same period last year.

Purists take note.
