I don't know if you have been following the exploits of a group of graduate some students at NC State. They have been working on a car called the "Splinter." Why name it Splinter? Well it's made out of wood.
Before you laugh, the world's first wooden supercar, with a planned top speed of 240mph, can sprint from 0 to 60mph in just over three seconds. The 15ft-long, two-seater Splinter, made from maple, plywood and MDF, has a 4.6 liter V8 engine and a six-speed gearbox. It weighs less than the lightweight Porsche 911 GT3. Despite its power, it will achieve 20mpg, according to its designer, Joe Harmon.
I
follow Harmon's progress daily at his blog. Take a visit to learn more about this most cool project.
