Spiritual Successor to Famed Citroen DS Arrives
Filed in archive on April 4, 2006
Now wouldn't you just love to buy this beauty? Fat chance if you live in North America. You are looking at the new Citroen C6, which was tested in France for Edmunds.com. In my opinion, the Citroen C6 demonstrates just how inelegant most current American - and even some European and Japanese - cars are. It has curves, it has style, and yes, it has elegance. And it has a greenhouse with windows that actually give passengers a view. According to Edmunds, it even made normally aloof Parisians - including one ambulance driver with his siren blaring - stop and take notice. As for driving dynamics, you'll have to read the review, but with a V-6 of 215 hp and a diesel producing 325 lb-ft of torque at 1,900 rpm it can run with the crowd. Drive is via the front wheels and a 6-speed auto. The C6 is the spiritual successor to the 1955 Citroen DS, a car so advanced it still looks futuristic.

I've seen one in the metal in Australia at the Brisbane Motorshow when Citroen happened to have one out for compliance testing and the local concessionaires snagged it for the stand. It's not as revolutionary as the DS but compared to just about everything else at the show, including the exotica, the C6 was the most *different* and therefore the most interesting.
