The writers at CAR magazine could barely preserve their British reserve (not that Brits exercise the stiff upper lip anymore, but roll with it) in detailing the new spy shots taken of BMW's M1. CAR is calling it the spiritual successor of the beloved 2002 of the 1970s. But unlike the original performance two-door, this latest M1 will come with muscle car power.
Based on the 1-series hatchback that is foreign to the North American market, the M1 is set to be powered by a 343 hp straight six that will drive the li'l bimmer from standstill to 60 mph in just 5.2 seconds and could go on to 175 mph (if the standard issue limiter is removed).
