Perhaps as if to atone for wrecking two old British marques (MG Rover), the BMW Group is seeking to make up for it (and in spades, euros, pounds, and dollars) by reviving yet another once-extinct Anglo nameplate - the Triumph.

AutoExpress' article buzzes with media fueled sensation that their staff has the potential scoop that the Teutonic giant will revive Triumph to produce roadsters that will do battle with the likes of Nanjing's MG.

"Despite speculation that JagĀuar, Land Rover and Volvo are in the frame as targets for acquisition, our sources have suggested that BMW will add to its portfolio by reviving a classic badge - and Triumph is top of the list. The historic British marque, which the maker took over when it bought MG Rover in 1994, would be a clear choice to market a rival for the new, Chinese-owned MG TF roadster,"
AutoExpress stated.

Hard to say if a new Triumph will match the new MINI in retro-chic appeal. But it is, nonetheless, an intriguing prospect.
