Spectacular Weekend Racing but Kimi’s the Coolest

It was a weekend of dramatic TV images for motor racing fans and certainly the video of Sam Hornish Jr. (seen here in Victory Lane) passing 19-year-old Marco Andretti to win the Indianapolis 500 in the second-closest finish in Indy history was the most exciting. In my opinion, however, the most amusing, if only for its glimpse into racing lifestyles at the very top, was that of F1 star Kimi Raikkonen relaxing on his brand-new boat after Kimi's McLaren-Mercedes blew an engine during the Monaco GP, won by Renault's Fernando Alonso. For Kimi it was a long walk back to the pits, but what does that matter if you own a luxury yacht moored stern-in alongside the harbour straight? Instead of returning to the team's motorhome the Finn climbed aboard the boat, traded driving suit for bathing suit, and joined similarly-clad friends for a drink. Kimi obviously likes his watercraft to be fast: the 42' boat is powered by twin 2200 hp engines. Now is that cool, or what?
