Forget about a good segment of globalization progress in the automotive industry in North America and Mexico if the Clinton, Obama duo have their way.

The Democratic presidential rivals are seeking to outdo each other in their rhetorical eagerness to renegotiate the North American free trade agreement.

Auto industry leader's call such talk not only unrealistic but potentially harmful. They insist that NAFTA has strengthened the Detroit 3 and made the parties to the agreement - the United States, Canada and Mexico - more competitive with Asia.

I guess this is a doubled edged sword. NAFTA holds down the costs of production with cheap foreign labor which helps the consumer and manufacturer but hammers the longevity of US auto workers.
