<p>Who knew that so much industry news would center around healthcare? Alas, that's the current state of affairs where it pertains to the U.S. auto industry.</p>
<p>According to the <i>Detroit News</i>, GM's healthcare costs are projected to have grown by 14.7% between 2005 to 2008. Ford? An overall rise of 9.1% in the same time frame.</p>
<p>In dollars and cents terms, the current healthcare costs that are factored into each GM and Ford automobile now stands @ $1,783 and $1,064 per unit, respectively. </p>
<p>And while the United Auto Workers <!-- #SL_START# --><span class=Union (UAW) has made some concessions with FoMoCo's top brass to ease the medical expense burden, Ford's liability is still likely to rise with GM's in the long term.
