Recalled > Ford's Flamin' F-Series
Filed in archive on March 21, 2007

When buyers of the '07 6.4 liter diesel F-Series super Duty purchased their pickup this year, they expected durability, quality (remember, it's job one @ FoMoCo), and stump pulling power. What they might not have expected was imitation-jet exhaust pipes.
Ford announced yesterday that it is recalling the 34,700 F-Series Super Duty trucks that are affected (only the 6.4 liter diesels thus far) by what witnesses have confirmed to be flames shooting from the tailpipes. Apparently, one such infernal incident involved an F-Series setting fire to someone's lawn in Texas.
Folks in Detroit think that the problem might be caused by fuel leaking into the exhaust system and then igniting. Whatever the cause, it adds fuel to the fire of controversy surrounding the Detroit's most beleaguered carmaker.
