Photo Tour Of Phaeton Factory

The Phaeton is the best car you never saw. Never? That's right, it barely sold. Just a few thousand (~2,400) before VW announced the model should be discontinued. Thanks to some internet surfing, I found a cool site that linked to a photo tour of the transparent Phaeton assembly factory. I've said in the past on my other site that the Phaeton is such a good car that VW should do something to save it. My father-in-law, who would gladly sell me for parts in order to get a Phaeton, suggested VW spin the Phaeton into its own division and just sell the one car. He thinks it's better looking than the audi A8L and I have to admit, I agree. So, what do ya'll think of the Phaeton? Was it a major mistake by VW to move upscale? Did the car not sell purely because it was a $70k VW? Even though it was badged as a VW, wasn't it worth the money?

Bear in mind that the Phaeton isn’t going away totally — only in North America. If your father-in-law really wants one, tell him that it’s a great excuse to emigrate to Europe.
