Concepts
by Jeff Bressler on February 19, 2008

Due to be unveiled at next month's Geneva Motor Show, Saab is ready to show a new significant hatchback newcomer that is set to go head-to-head with the BMW 1-Series, Audi A3 and Volvo C30.
Only the shadow knows what the fully revealed concept will look like, but based on the picture above, you can see the wide stance and muscular front end are clear evolutions of previous concepts, the AeroX (right) and 9X (left). The wraparound windshield is also an indication of the sporty direction that the Swedish manufacturer plans to take its future models.
The showroom ready 9-1 will be based on GM's Delta platform, which is currently used on the European Vauxhall Astra and Zafira. Power is expected to come from the company's existing range of gasoline and diesel motors. However, both an efficient new 1.4-liter gasoline engine and an E85 fuelled BioPower engine are said to be in the pipeline.
