By "jump start", the folks behind jumpstartford.com mean not to produce an effective turn-around strategy that will lead the automaker to a full recovery from its heavy fiscal losses and reemploy thousands of laid-off workers. No, this site aims to target the Ford Motor Company in particular for the ills of America's dependence on oil.
According to the website, the Ford fleet has the worst average mileage of any car manufacturer. So best to target them then with wily-style fringe protests that, for example, feature women holding signs that claim that Ford has afflicted 6.1 million American children with asthma. And these were the same people who tried to get GM CEO Rick Wagoner to sign an environmental pledge at last month's LA Auto Show.
Advocating clean energy solutions is a terrific goal for both the environment and all the economic and political benefits that come for independence from tyrannous oil. But this is a daft way of going about it.
