Not Worth It

Or so says CNN/Money. I know, what in the world am I writing about now? Gizmos, friend, gizmos! I wrote recently that I'd totally buy a system that could parallel park my jalopy and I stand by that. But what about some other cool, techie options? Well, CNN has put the kibosh on a few bad safety options: adaptive headlamps, lane-departure warning systems, and night vision.
Now, out of those three, I'da really thought the steerable headlamps would be the most useful, but reporter Lawrence Ulrich didn't agree, writing
The adaptive lights do little or nothing to improve the nighttime view, even on dark and winding country roads where you'd most expect to see some difference.
Man, little or nothing! Don't auto makers think we'd notice that they did nothing? And didn't the Tucker have that steerable headlamp? Does anyone know if it really worked?
So, this got me to thinking: have any of you bought a few questionable options? You know, something you thought was a must-have, but turned out to be a #$%@!%^& ?

I had a Cougar XR7 a while back that had an auto dimming
mirror. It DID auto-dim, but JUST to late after you had already been blinded. I
would let it dim, and switch it off. Much better…
doesn’t like the lights? wow…now that is something else. preston tucker came out with it, then now lexus has it and even uses it on their ad’s.
i’m with you, his comment is way out there. think of how you look through a corner on a motorcycle. similiar concept to the adaptive lights.
i’m sure Ulrich has a beef w/the corvair too…
