Nissan Reverses Versa Fuel Figures

Automobile manufacturers must be very careful about making product claims that just aren't true. For example, it wasn't so long ago that Hyundai was forced to admit it had overstated the power of the then-new Elantra. (Mind you, there was a time when Detroit exaggerated the horsepower figures of just about every engine it made.) Now Nissan has released new EPA fuel economy numbers for its CVT-equipped, 122-hp, 1.8 liter Versa hatchbox, which hasn't even hit the showrooms yet. The original estimate was 38 mpg, now fallen to 33 mpg. Perhaps they were thinking of Imperial gallons.
