Nine Carmakers, Two Suppliers Unite In Safety Research
Filed in archive on April 16, 2007

DaimlerChrysler, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Renault-Nissan, Peugeot, Citroën, Toyota Motor, Takata Corporation and TRW Automotive are collaborating on the research and development of six human models by 2011 that will with the precision of computer-aided technology, simulate humans "in minute detail," GM's PR Dept. announced Sunday.
One the six are developed and built, the carmakers have plans on replicating those designs in higher numbers.
The move comes as an effort to better auto safety research. Current crash-test dummies do not provide the indepth analysis of specific tissue and organ injury that the proposed "virtual humans" could.
The collaborative project is working under the titled LLC, "Global human body Models Consortium," and is based in Michigan.
