Muscle Mistake?

I'm going to leave it to Phil to go on about why the new crop of muscle cars aren't the right way to go, but what I'm most interested in is the new obsession with power and old design?

I'll admit that I like the style of these things (much to Phil's chagrin), but two points stand out as mistakes: 1. These obsessions are temporary (like the SUV-craze) and 2. Where are the japanese muscle cars. Let me start with the latter, first. Japanese muscle cars? I know, they weren't over here making muscle cars in the 60s, but if there was money to be made making these things, you'd think they'd throw a few into the mix to see what happens. And what about these cars being cyclical? I was reading The Detroit News's piece: Pony up and the ending stood out:
"These are like fashion items," Peterson said. "A typical pony car has a life expectancy of about 24 months." Consumers pay above sticker price the first six months a car is on the market, then pay sticker until the craze eventually peters out and discounts are needed.
Sounds like a pretty typical move on Detroit's part. So, what do ya'll think? Think Detroit is going to make any money on these? Will sales peter out like they did for Chrysler's retro PT Cruiser? Will Phil write a piece on why the design of these new retro cars is pretty bad?
