More Honda Awards

I've written about this on my other car site (Cars! Cars! Cars!, but I wanted to mention it here because Honda keeps getting all these "Vehicle Of The Year" awards. AutoWeek reports: Honda Cleans Up. Now here are the parts I find most interesting:
1. The honda civic won by getting 244 points out of 490. So the Civic won by getting less than half the points? Either this test is too hard or competition really lame. I wish school grading was like that! I'da been a scholar!
2. The Honda Ridgeline won, despite anyone even buying the thing. OK, I guess a few did buy it (below Honda's expectations), but if a vehicle fails to sell, can it still be a winner in its category?
We're not trying to diss Honda, we're just trying to figure out how all these awards work. And how getting below 50% gets you the title.
