The little British car that could and did make it big by creating a niche market all its own on the world automotive stage is about to may another foray into decidedly more risky territory - selling a MINI SUV designed for the American market in mind and built in the United States.
AutoExpress reports that MINI would manufacture the Monte SUV at BMW's Spartanburg, SC plant that builds the X5. This may disappoint some folks back in the home country.
"While the news that the MINI is heading Stateside is a boost for US fans, it isn't so great for the BMW Group Plant Oxford at Cowley, which would not be developed to build the third model if the plans go ahead," AutoExpress' Dan Strong wrote.
MINIs building (mini) American SUVs? Tricky extension for the marque.
