Lifting the Embargo

The press embargo has been lifted, so I can finally tell you what I thought of the 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser — you can read my full review at About.com.

In a word, the new FJ Cruiser is great. I love the retro design, I love the practicality, and I really enjoyed driving it. I had very few quibbles with the new SUV — my only real big problem was the wind noise on the highway, and I think I could live with it.

I love the original FJ40 Land Cruiser — the combination of rugged and Japanese makes it a timeless design to my eye. But I've never wanted to own one — too rugged for my everyday needs. This new one, though — it's just cool.

I wonder if the youth market that Toyota is after will fall in love with the FJ Cruiser, or if it will become another middle-age magnet like the Scions.

What do you think of the looks? Will you be tempted to pony up for an FJ Cruiser when they hit the market later next year?
