If I could have lived anyone's life but my own, I might have chosen Otis Chandler's. Not only was he the heir to the Los Angeles Times fortune and a powerful publisher in his own right, Mr. Chandler is also a great car and motorcycle collector. And he shares his collection with the public, at least once every few months, anyway.
Mr. Chandler's collection is housed at the Vintage Museum of Transportation and Wildlife in Oxnard, California. He has everything from early automobiles to beautiful deco classics to exotic sportscars to musclecars. He's got one of the best antique motorcycle collections in the world.
The "Wildlife" part of the collection is a little disturbing in this PC era -- Mr. Chandler is also a big game hunter. His stuffed and mounted trophies line the walls of the museum, lending an eerie personal touch to the collection.
Check the Vintage Museum website for dates -- and you'll wish you were Otis Chandler, too.
