Let’s Retire F1′s Bernie and Max Before it’s Too Late

If ever we needed reasons to get rid of the two clowns who are running, and just about destroying F1, Bernie Ecclestone and Max Mosely continue to offer disgusting opportunities. First, Max gets caught with his pants down, playing Nazi sex games with paid floozies. Then Bernie reveals to a Daily Mail reporter his replusive views on democracy and Adolph Hitler. He attempts to withdraw his remarks but in a later interview reportedly adds fuel to the fire by blaming "the Jews" for failing to address the worldwide banking crisis. He went on to suggest that FIA president Max Mosley, one-time fascist leader Oswald Mosely's son, would make a good prime minister.
Government officials in Germany have already canceled meetings with Ecclestone, while some have speculated that McLaren-Mercedes and BMW Sauber as well as the Cologne-based Toyota team could boycott his leadership.
The sad part of this tale is that at one time in their careers both men contributed a great deal to motor racing. In 1972 Ecclestone bought the Brabham team, which he managed well for fifteen years. He now controls the commercial aspects and has gradually moved F1 from traditional European and North American circuits into the middle-and-far-east, where money rules. Mosley was a founder and co-owner of March Engineering, a successful racing car constructor and Formula One racing team. He has also promoted increased safety and the use of green technologies in racing. He eventually became president of the FIA where his rule changes were recently rejected by FOCA, the manufacturer's group.
Formula One represents the pinnacle of motorsport with the best drivers, the fastest cars, and the most challenging circuits. Given good management it can continue to entertain millions of fans internationally while remaining the envy of every race driver in the world and yes… that includes NASCAR and Indy Car competitors. First, however, F1 needs to dump these two dictators. They've had their day, enjoyed moments in the sun and now, surely, have the sensitivity to step aside. At which point we can get back to racing.
