Learning To Drive
Autoblog had a piece about special licensing. And while it was just a joke (April Fool's), the idea of special licensing makes a lot of sense to me. I've written on this subject before: Titanic On Wheels and Driver Training. But to further clarify, we need to be trained in the same size/power vehicle we are driving. And certified for it. Now, look, for most cars a regular license is all that's needed. But for high-powered cars (i.e. Corvette Z06) or really heavy trucks (i.e. hummer H1) a new license should be required. Many cars and trucks are bigger and faster than ever before, yet all our training is exactly the same as in the 1950s. Heck, a Toyota Camry is faster to 60 mph than a mid 70s Firebird-if that doesn't say times are a-changin' I'm not sure what will.
