Land Rover, Not Mars Rover

It may resemble a next generation Mars Rover but in fact, it's a Land Rover. Or at least a skeletal design for the platform of the company's Land_e, an "e-Terrain Technology Concept" vehicle, as shown at the recent Geneva show. It displays, says Autoweek, "the brand's hybrid, biodiesel and exhaust-heat recovery systems." Land Rover claims the technologies could produce up to 30 percent better fuel economy with no on-road or off-road performance sacrifice. "The e-Terrain technologies are practical, feasible, real-world solutions," says Matthew Taylor, Land Rover managing director. "In every case they preserve – and in most cases improve – our breadth of capability." Hybrid-driven Land Rovers may seem odd but the company notes that electrics are particularly well-suited to off-road conditions requiring enhanced low-speed control and strong low-end torque.
