Sorry if it offends your sensibilities, but I absolutely love this article from Business Week's Bradley Berman. He was invited to speak at the recent Society of Automotive Engineers' 2006 Hybrid Symposium in San Diego, where he invited auto manufacturer's engineers to switch their efforts from power increases to breakthroughs in fuel-conserving technology. A well-intentioned Berman was greeted with mild Applause and a big laugh. If I'd been there I'd have reminded the audience that even a lowly Toyota Yaris has better performance than the average family sedan of a few years ago, while trouncing the fuel mileage. C'mon, guys. Who needs anything more?
