Cool concept.

Dowdy Actuality.

Excitement reigned supreme when the world saw how creative and forward thinking Jaguar's design team could be with the C-XF; the sports sedan that would both redefine the term and replace the poorly built, ancient retro-craptastic S-Type.

It was, to borrow a line from Bogart (or Ford) in sabrina, as if a pleasant breeze had blown through the house of Coventry.

And then that air went stale when we recently discovered how watered down the concept had become to fit into production realities. Honest, it looks like the interior of current Jag, only without the traditional J-Gate shifter.

A sorry sight for sore eyes.

Hmmm… Has more than a touch of 1990′s Toyota about it as well.

Certainly lacking any evidence of elegance or taste.

Where do they get these designers from? It’s a question that has bugged me for as long as I’ve been obsessed with cars. It takes no more effort to design something attractive than it does to design something thats bloody horrid.

No doubt in Jaguars case it is more to do with $’s or a lack of them.

I don’t know where this image came from but I can most definitely tell you that this is NOT the interior of the XF. I should know too – I work at Jag!!!

God Forbid. But this is a company owned by Ford, whose entire product line is dull and Jaguar is capable of putting this into production. Witness the current XJ8, an ugly Buick if there ever was one.

    Dave I hope you’re right.

Dave > this interior shot has been circulating through some credible sources – most notably CAR magazine (not that their record is flawless, remembering the M3 photoshop incident this year). But the evidence is compelling. We can see the new circular knob shifter, and the dash that in layout is very similar (but again watered down) from the concept’s. The side rearview mirror is also the same as the ones seen in spy shots of the XF tester mule.

Jim > The current XJ8 an “ugly Buick” that’s harsh – even for the bland XJ.

Steane > Jag’s got some of the best minds in the biz in the design shops. It’s money…or the lack of it that makes defangs the Cat.

Heavens forbid if Jag sends the XF out in such a stale manner. I owned an X-TYPE and was sorely disappointed in the Quality. Now I own the S-Type and it’s much better but is still lacking as far as the quality of the seating(+ or -)other issue. This is my last go-a-round with Jag. If the XF isn’t all they claim it will be————well I will just buy a Corvette or BMW

    Jim,

I must disagree with respect to the XJ8, It is a fine automobile with exceptional apppointments. In fact is represents what a true Jaguar should be, particularly with the interior

I previous owned th X-Type and is was disasterous in term of quality. However acquired the S-Type and it more reflective of what Jaguar should be. But I’m looking for a fresh approach from them for 2008. If the XF is not all they claim it can/will be, I will buy a Corvette or Lexus

i currently lease a 2005 s-type and plan on getting an XF. I am certainly glad to hear dave cox ‘s comments regarding the interior. It really doesn’t resemble any Jag interior i’ve ever seen. and i sold Jaguars from 1991 to 2005!

As usual lots of Rubbish. You must all be bavarian clones from the BMW and Merc stables.

    The XF is superb.
