Poor is the downtrodden X-Type.
The Baby Jag never really did find a fan base (though yours truly did have some kind words). Could it have been a too tiny Mondeo chassis (and lots of Ford parts to boot)? Or residuals that had all the short term buoyancy of cinder blocks?
Though like the un-loved XJ40 chassis XJ series of the late 80s and early 90s, the X-Type will have their own enclave of die-hard fans, too.
So, perhaps with that in mind, Jaguar's set on selling the entry-level Jaguar again for model year 2008 with moderate styling changes; most notable of which is the new grille with circular cat badge inset in the middle.
Though, Edmunds.com reports conspiratorially that the X-Type will not be directly replaced and that the line with extinguish in a couple more (embarrassing) years.
How well all this sets with would-be buyers is something the X-Type's own fans will have to decide. Because chances are, they're the only ones who will have noticed.
