In an effort to meet its goals of 1.5 million cars sold worldwide by 2015, Audi plans on expanding operations at its assembly plant in Brussels, Belgium. Starting in 2009, Audi has designs on seeing the next variant of the popular compact A3 model built in the bittersweet land that's home to EU bureaucrats and exquisite chocolate.
For the corporate volk the expansion of operations from Germany to Belgium made sense for all the right fiscal reasons.
"Profitable growth is the basic ingredient of our corporate strategy. And it is a strategy that is working. We are therefore delighted to be able to add to our capacity through the Brussels plant. It will equip us for continued, vigorous growth over the next few years," said Audi Management Board Chairman Rupert Stadler.
Audi has broken profit and sales records each year for the past 11. The expansion @ Brussels represents only part of the €11.8 Billion ($15.7 Billion) five year investment program that will increase Audi's lineup from 22 models to 40.
