Hyundai has fired a warning shot across the bows of Ford's European fleet in what UK car mag AutoExpress reports is a drastic shake-up of the South Korean automaker's European lineup.

The Blue Oval's popular Focus has long been the darling of Europe's hatchback consumers – the British in particular.

But, starting with the new Kia-based i30 hatchback that premiered at the Geneva Autoshow, Hyundai is set to discard Americanized names "Santa Fe" and the like in favor of distinctly Infiniti-esque designations – "i10" through "i50". The new i30 will compete directly against the Focus and judging from the reports indicating the model's popularity @ Geneva, it could prove a problem for FoMoCo.

Challenging times for Ford.
