I can't imagine ever buying a car based on its crash test results. I'd be more interested in a car that can avoid the crash. Still, for a family driver with children, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's ratings must be taken into account. Which makes the Hyundai Sonata and Tucson "best buys." Both received NHTSA's top five-star crash test rating for front and side impacts. The Sonata features six airbags – including dual front, front seat-mounted side-impact, and front and rear side curtain airbags – along with active front-seat head restraints. A total of six airbags are positioned in the Tucson GLS's interior. All four doors also have internal guard beams to protect passengers in a side-impact collision.
