I have often wondered how much extra money I am really spending for gas compared to what gas prices use to be. I mean, we all complain about it but have you ever really sat down with a pen or pencil and figured out the cost. I found a great graph of historical gas prices out on GasBuddy.com. The image in this post is is actually from that site. Much thanks to GasBuddy.com! Please go visit them.

As of today, from the graph, we are, on average, spending about 1 dollar more than we spent last year. When you do the numbers, assuming you get some interesting real costs:

1 dollar more per gallon last year
work is 30 miles and assume about 30 miles per gallon
each day it costs you $2 extra to go to and from work
that's $10 dollars every week
that $520 dollars every year extra to just go to work and back

how bad is that? Granted we are paying, if you run the numbers, about $2,000 a year to go to and from work. This is a lot, but another $520 or just $2 a day. I think i'll just give up my starbucks coffee and brew my own.
