sharon Terlep of the Detroit News dampened the hopes of Chevy Volt fans everywhere today by raising the alarming possibility that the Volt might not actually see the light of production-day.
Charged with more blogosphere anticipatory hype than GM can shake a Zeta platform at, Ms. Terlep senses that The General is backing away from the carmaker's most ambitious electric car project ever.
"Production depends on advances in battery technology that could be years away. The uncertainty led to intense debate within GM over whether it was wise to show the Volt in Detroit. And now that the world's waiting for GM to deliver what could be the biggest environmental breakthrough so far this century, company officials are actively trying to temper expectations."
So, in other words, GM's just up to its same tired tricks - writing cheques for the longterm that cannot possibly be ca$hed.
