Glutton For Punishment > VW Plans On U.S. Phaeton Return

Why anyone believed that a $100K bloated Caddy-met-Audi sedan that wore "The People's Car" badge would make it in these United States is beyond reasoning. Sales proved as poor as the concept and the model was rightfully pulled.

VW's erroneous move to introduce the Phaeton stood as a strong lesson in corporate self-deceit. And to try the same trick twice, well, that's stupidity bordering on the certifiable.

But according to Bloomberg news services, those gluttons for tortured sales of expensive products that won't go – Volkwagen USA – have plans to bring the absurd Phaeton back to America. The visage of M.Y. 2008 Phaeton will have some cosmetic alterations from the last M.Y. known to American Phaeton drivers and enthusiasts (a strange lot) 2005, but otherwise it's the same old song.

Like a bad penny, the Phaeton just keeps turning up.

Volkswagen is giving Phaeton another chance at the US market. VW had incorporated some of the upscale parts like VW cold air intake – http://www.vdubpartsdirect.com/vw_coldairintake.html – and other accessories to make it more attractive and stylish. As to whether Volkswagen decision right or not in introducing again the said car, only time will tell. Lets wait and see..

I thought that the Phaeton was an awesome luxury car…but VW isn’t a luxury make…that’s like Chevy trying to compete with Cadillac.

The VW Phaeton, which is the current flagship model of Volkswagen’s full size luxury sedan lineup has not sold well since it entered the United States market in 2004. This is because of the expensive sticker price for the vehicle and the strong competition with other luxury sedans sold in the US market like the Audi A8, BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class. As a result of the VW Phaeton’s poor performance in terms of sales, the Wolfsburg Germany-based car maker announced that it would discontinue the production of the luxury sedan in North American market after the launch of the 2006 model year. I’m glad Phaeton’s back now.
