Fewer Options Trend
There's a new trend afoot: fewer available options. At least here in the U.S. (apparently Europeans don't mind waiting for a car to be built with less-popular options). First, acura did it with the RL and then Mercedes is aiming to do it next. Now we have AutoWeek reporting: Audi moving to simplify product offerings for U.S. market. What is interesting is that Acura chose to load up the RL so now it's pricey ($50k) and sales are suffering. Now, I'm not saying it's because of the no option thing, but $50k is pretty spendy. So, does it make sense for Audi to do this? I think it makes a lot of sense. At least based on the U.S. market (I didn't realize Audi offered two air-conditioning systems and two kinds of sunroofs). This is an interesting experiment. Do you think it will help Audi? Do you think any other manufacturers will follow this trend?
