Coming: A Smarter MG Midget

Just as I'm ready to write off MG comes an announcement of a revival. The UK-based Kimber Group plans on building MG sports cars using Smart technology, beginning with a small 2-seater based on the Smart Roadster. CEO of Kimber's team is Englishman Barrie Wills, who launched the Elan at Lotus. Italian Paolo Caccamo, chairman of Italian design specialist I.D.E.A. will serve as advisor. And what of Nanjing, the Chinese firm that bought MG Rover? Autoweek reports that Kimber and Nanjing Automobile are in negotiations over use of the MG brand. The car, possibly to be named MG Midget, will use use the new 3-cylinder Mitsubishi engine slated for the 2nd-generation Smart ForTwo.
