Yesterday, CEOs from the big 2.5 plus the UAW's Ron Gettelfinger arrived on Capitol Hill to warn Congress not to raise the corporate average fuel economy standards (CAFE) to 35 mpg for SUVs and trucks. The measure which is meant to bring all vehicles inline by 2020 would cause the American car industry irreparable harm, the auto execs argued.
Tom LaSorda, Chrysler's embattled CEO, gave a speech that echoed the concerns of his colleagues. However around 1PM Mr. LaSorda was forced to leave the senate hearing due to "an illness". His aides wouldn't expound upon what the nature of his illness was, but did insist that he would recover, the Detroit News reported.
For Chrysler's sake, let's wish Mr. LaSorda a speedy recovery.
