Hyper-powered Camaro styling? Only a 40 mile range? $30K-$40K likely MSRP? Surely a for-the-green-lobby marketing exercise that's ripe with hype.
Au contraire, says Chevrolet General Manager Ed Peper. In a recent interview with a fawning interviewer from the PodTech network held at the Chicago Auto Show, one of GM's top brass explained the Volt's charge.
"This is one of the most serious concepts we have ever had [...] we want to bring a vehicle like this to market as quickly as we can."
Mr. Peper did admit that the media interest in the Chevy Volt was easily double that of any other GM concept in recent times.
Indeed, the buzz for the battery powered concept has increased the pressure on the General to provide the substance (read: make it happen) to support it. Mr. Pepper was at pains to address this. We'll see if the rubber that's his word meets the roadway of production reality.
