Bling-blings Make a Comeback

Cadillac Escalade

I'm no fan of the Cadillac Escalade or any monster SUV for that matter. Yet I really admire the treatment GM's designers have given the newest version, ladelling on the chrome trim as though we were back in the 60's again. (Good grief, I never thought I'd say that! After all, I was one of those "blackout" disciples who praised the replacement of chrome with black, black, and more black.) Like black-on-white interior decor and black suits with tie-less white shirts, the non-color has become depressingly boring. Chrome, on the other hand, is jewellery. Cautiously applied, it can make the dullest of cars more appealing. I was wrong about black and welcome a return to chrome trim on more cars, even if it takes an SUV to encourage the trend. Thanks, Cadillac, and when may we see the return of tail fins and whitewalls?

phillip – I agree, just hope they don’t overdue it as time goes on.

I also love the combination of black and chrome since I remember. They bind each other very strong and give a great visual effect. But I don’t find this combination very adequate for a SUV. Especially for a monster SUV.

Hopefully the all black phase is a thing of the past. The chrome trim looks great and this is a trend I wouldn’t mind seeing catch on. Long live the Escalade!
