Another Nail in Saab’s Coffin?

Cadillac BLS

Oh, please GM, give us a break with those pseudo-Saabs. As if the Subaru-based "Saaberoo" wasn't disgusting enough, as if Saabs based on Opel underpinnings haven't diminished the image of a distinctive Swedish auto, now you want us to accept a Saab dressed as a Cadillac?

According to John Neff's blog in Autoblog, the Cadillac BLS will be produced at Saab's Trollhattan factory because it is under-utilised (whose fault is that?) and building BLS wagons for Europe will keep the trolls busy. Hey, GM… the Europeans are the world's most sophisticated car buyers and they're not going to be fooled by a Cadillac badge on a Saab 9-3! Want a Caddy? Good, they'll buy a real Cadillac. Want a Saab? The Europeans will respond to a car with genuine Swedish character.

Consider this: The Scandinavians are famed for superb furniture design. So are the Italians. But each country has its own style and try to combine them and you'll end up with the only thing more boring than Cape Cod cottages transplanted to the beaches of California. Now drop the "L" from the BLS nameplate, GM, and what have you got? Right. Which perfectly describes this ridiculous Saabillac.

Holy cow is this insane. Especially since I read that the next Saabs are going to be built in Germany.

    So, if I understand this:

The Cadillac BLS is a Saab 9-3 built _in_ Sweden while future Swedish Saabs are going to built in Germany.

I need a scorecard. At least my Saab 900s still loves me.
