Accent 3-Door Bows While We Impatiently Await the GSI

Ever since I tested the 2006 Hyundai 4-door Accent for About Cars and gave it a rave review I've been itching to try the 3-door, which is essentially the same car with two doors and a hatch. More specifically, I'm itching to try the GSi, a sporty version (already sold in Europe) that Hyundai has been using as a tease while we humble scribes encourage consumers to focus on the basic economy models.
Enough already! The 3-door Accent finally bows in Chicago and seems primed for entry-level attention. It features a 110-horsepower 1.6-liter four that will also appeal to the growing market for fuel-efficient vehicles. The three-door will come with six standard airbags, as well as four-wheel disc brakes with ABS. Company officials hint the three-door will be positioned as a price leader, at less than the $11,500 base for a 4-door Accent.
Hyundai Motor America President and CEO Bob Cosmai mentioned in Chicago that this year is Hyundai's 20th anniversary in America. According to Cosmai, the automaker is on top of its game, with a customer loyalty rate of 56.3 percent and an 8.7-percent sales jump over the past year. Great… terrific! So give me that GSi first, Hyundai, finally admitting that the Web outdraws print for consumer attention.
