We can expect this latest rendition of the conservatively evolved Jaguar XJ saloon (the series has had roughly the same silhouette since the late 1960s with a brief boxy interlude in the late 80s/early90s with the XJ-40 chassis) to be the last of the true double-headlamped jaguars.

Regrettably, sales of the current generation XJ faltered on complaints that the cars were too similar to the predecessor series (1995-2002) but less graceful in terms of material fit and finish.

With this new grille and front air intake, we have a strong sense of the sport driven future of the marque. The cat badge has been lowered towards the center of a matrix grille. The chrome matrix option was originally reserved for supercharged models but has since proliferated due to its potent visual appeal.

Beefier bumpers front and rear plus tall rims add to the car's new athletic look.

And for the first time, it appears that future XJ buyers in these United States will be treated to headlamp washers – a Europe-only feature on previous cats.

In sum, Coventry is telling us to brace for faster paced future XJs.
