Corvettes Old and New
Peter M. DeLorenzo is a personality I've never met but we have a few things in common, among them having worked as creative directors for General Motor's ad agencies. Another is his absolute disgust with GM's treatment of the Corvette which, as he relates in his latest "rant," is one of the world's great sports cars. I couldn't agree more, for the Corvette delivers pure sports car handling and performance at a price that makes it a bargain, even among so-called super cars. What riles DeLorenzo is Chevrolet's failure to recognise the Corvette's GT class win in the 12 Hours of Sebring, America's most prestigious sports car race. This classic event marked the 50th anniversary of Corvette Racing, which has an enviable record in races around the world, including LeMans. My colleague's point, and I totally agree, is that General Motors, desperately trying to establish a positive image, has missed a magnificent opportunity.
